1. Others have mentioned Stephen King movies, but "The Shining" stands out for me. When I read the book, it really scared me, but I could not put it down! A few years later, I wouldn't see the movie for a few years because I'd heard the ending had been changed. When I finally did see it, though, it got me again.

2. "Nosferatu," the original vampire-type movie. It's a German silent movie made in 1922. I watched it again on Halloween night. My husband mentioned to our visiting friend that it so closely followed Bram Stoker's story, that his widow filed suit in Germany to get royalties. As a result, most of the copies of the film were destroyed. Let me tell you, there's nothing pretty, attractive or sexy about that creature.

3. "Phantom of the Opera," but not the popular one. It's the one that was made in the 50s, where Harold Lom played the Phantom/Professor. It's the first "Phantom" I ever saw, and saw it a few years in a row on Halloween tv nights. Recently, I finally found a video copy and bought it. The original silent one with Lon Chaney is in a class by itself, and the opera version is neat, but the characters are quite different.

I haven't seen that one in forever, too!

You're right, Hwillny - it's funny how old sci-fi movies are quite different to watch now vs. back then.  So much has changed in a relatively short time-period.
