Posted about 1 year ago Growing up, we had several gold fish, two canaries, a parakeet, a turtle, three gerbils and a dog and we all lived in a small house, but were as happy as can be. Something I think is so special is the names we give our pets. In some cases a lot of thought goes into their names, or perhaps just whims, but more importantly our personalities come out in the names we give to them. These are just a few of our family pet names Brighty, Teddy, Tina, Rafiki, Sheldon, Liberty, Bear, Ziggy, Cheyenne, Mia, Juanita, Blue, Huey, Dewey and Louie. So what are some of the names you've given to your pets? From reading the posts thoughout this Group, some of the names are neat, creative and well thought of, and that also includes "Kitty Pig" or "Pig Kitty". Stella

Posted about 1 year ago Sometimes before getting the animal, we would just sit at a diner (diner -- what's that? Don't have one here!) and talk about the names before we would get one.

Posted about 1 year ago I have 2 cats at home, Hotrod--a Tabby that is 14 years old that I rescued from a trash bin in Germany when he was 9 months old, and Missy--a yellow Angora 4 years old that I rescued from the shelter when she was 6 weeks old and weighed only 1/2 pound. They are my babies. I also have 8 outside cats, 4 of which are Calicos that keep my property free of mice and other country critters. I do love dogs, however, we do not have any at this time.

Posted about 1 year ago There's a lot of free roaming cats here. People feed them and make sure they have plenty of water. Drives the dogs a little crazy, but they love it here.

Posted about 1 year ago I have two ferrets. Tricky, the boy (6 mo), is albino, and has a little playful personality all his own. Criquette, the girl (10 mo), is a dark-eyed white, and she is deaf, but has the bigest desire to explore everything. She's got her name because she's been jumping since she was a baby. She's only about 2lbs and can already scale the side of the bathtub! They are so easy to take care of and they're very interactive and entertaining!

Posted about 1 year ago I have a shepherd-husky mix. He's 16 years old and feeling the effects of his age. However, it's always a pleasure for me to see him when he greets me at the door when I come home. It makes all the difficulties of the work day seem to melt away. I think an animal especially dogs would be a welcome visiting companion for individuals in a nursing home. I would think that a pre-arranged meeting place and those wishing to meet and spend time with the pets would be a good start. Not everyone might like meeting and spending time with a dog...

Posted about 1 year ago Greetings! I have two cats. One is a 6 year-old orange tabby named Snickerdoodle. The other is a two year-old gray fluff ball named Willow. Willow is a cross between a gray tabby and a calico, but her only orange is on one of her toes. She has a "feather-duster" tail, and is quite a gal. We had a black lab / beagle mix. Oreo was a great dog. She had the look of all lab, but was more the size of a 16 inch beagle. She got cancer and passed away a number of years ago. She was a great bird dog, loved running rabbits, and was an all around good girl. We miss her. I think pets in nursing homes are very beneficial. I have seen patients respond to pets even when they otherwise refuse to communicate with people. Pets can bring out the child in all of us!

Posted about 1 year ago hello everyone.../ i have dogs and cats along with some farm animals.../ one dog is inside and he is sharpae ( white hair) pedigree.../ his name is Tad.. and is quite the actor around guest and inter acts with two Tabby cats that rule the frontier style porch wrap around my ranch style home in the country.../ for some reason they nap in the same area and all is well then out of the blue they all play hide and seek its funny to watch the Tabbys gang up and they seam to use faints and ruse tactics....however Tad has a retreat manuever and will charge at the pair then fall back into the trap door.. in side to the water bowl and back out to mount another assault on the Tabbys position only to be flanked into retreat and on and on we go its a lot of fun and they are playing because soon they will all curl up on the same padded area on the porch and keep each other warm its pricless.../ I had persian cat (Orange) pedegree... he passed on several years ago and was with me from wean to death 13 years.../ his name was Buba... he rode everywhere with me a real Battle Buddy... he would be ready to travel at a moments notice and when he heard my keys come off the wall hook would jump up on the back of the sofa i had right by the front door and hitch a ride on my shoulder like clock work... also i would be up every day at 0530 to set my deer feeders he would be ready to go any weather condition he went where i went... there was a large spannish oak right out side the front off the path and i used to walk by the tree and he would climb up and hunt for birds and stay there until i returned and then climb back on to my shoulder and off we go in side... He would put his ears back and become acute whan ever he heard any type of cellophane crackling.. some thing strange about it at frist but I had an idea.. and tacked a piece of strip carpet on divider wall den to dinning area ...it went all the way from ground level to ceiling... i would crumple the cellophane from a box of cigars I had and he would track the noise.. i wouldnt let him see it... and would crackle it and then hide it in different places behind the carpet strip... and move back he would lurch onto the carpet clawing and hunting with percision i might add and fetch the plastic cellophane....repel down to the floor and bring it to me and drop it either in my hand if i had it opened or at my feet if he thought I was not watching him... I he did have a lot of personality... and played fetch...go figure... lots of stories with Buba and other pets I've had but that will be some other time i suppose... my pets have taught me that life is a participation sport... and they have a key role in the enjoyment of living...end

Posted about 1 year ago yea... he was awesome.../ and we went through rain and wind and heat.../ one time i went out as usual before day break it was very dark and had just stopped pouring down rain... i went by the tree and he took his morning climb... i returned a few minuets later and he came down in a hurry.. meowing very strangely i could not see very well and we started into the house by this time his claws were locked on my shoulder and I felt a lot of little crawlers on my arm and back... then it happened I and BUBBA were covered with fire ants and they were biting us we were both making a lot of noise as I ran inside and right into the shower (all I could think off at the time).... he stayed right on my shoulder through it all with the shower running full blast until I was able to get him to let go of his grip... he just allowed me to hold him and we worked through the ants washing them down the drain... for the most part... there were a few straglers for about half an hour or so.. ./ it was funny he or I would would jump and make a sound or two while we picked or scratched the ants away..../ funny now but it was several days of ointments and a couple of vet visits... but we got through it.../ hey .../ any stories from past pet friends you want to share.../

Posted about 1 year ago Dave Cats can be really neat to have. Saved one from going to the shelter. Named him Punky. He was gray with a white swirl on his side. Very affectionate. His idea of showing love was catching a mouse and giving it you as a present. I'd like to think there's an animal heaven somewhere just waiting for us to come and get them when it's our turn to go.

Posted about 1 year ago thats a cat for you..../ they are natural hunters... and despite there rather reserved demeanor... there quite adapted to us humans... I am sure GOD has a place in HIS kingdom for such as that... not sure about actual resurrection specific heaven.... one thing for sure ... GOD created all living and creaping things.... HE will no doubt make full use of what HE has created....agreed....Peacebe.../

Posted about 1 year ago No one is really sure about what the Kingdom of Heaven is really like. Some people see glimpses of it, but I like the idea of family members and our animals (who seem like family to us) are there waiting for us.

Posted about 1 year ago I used to have pet anole lizards growing up - I made a terrarium for them and let them go after a couple days. Once, I had a Savannah Monitor as a pet in my apartment. It liked to eat cat food off of a fork (when I wasn't feeding him mice). It grew fast and one day I got home from work and it had escaped out of the terrarium, and I never found him again. I bet someone got a surprise one morning. :)

Posted about 1 year ago Scooby.../ it is a very user friendly profile..../ i think everone liked the Scoob.../ Peacebe.../ I agree it very well might be.../ KimBush.../ That is a funny mess.../ do you still have Puppy.../? Blue.../ lizards are cool... i used to watch them with a big magnifing glass my granfather had and pretend they were diosaurs.../ the S Monitor...must have been good size... and i bet some one got the shook of there life.../ funny...// about two years back while I was in Baghdad.../ our power would go off a lot... I would open a window that faced out towards the Tigress River..../ long story short one day a white canary.../(i Think anyway) flew into the window and perched right on a wall locker hook close to my desk..../ it had a beautiful song and would not frighten away but would fly around and perch again on the hook.../ I tried to shoo it out without hurting it ... but it came back for three days.../ on the second day it was there out side the window and flew in as soon as I opened... my co worker saw the whole thing.../ and was annoyed at the bird but the song was magnificant.../ i secretly enjoyed it (truth be known) anyway I had some raw trail mix i like to snack on and placed some of the seeds along with a small cut out cup with water so it could swallow the seeds on top of the locker.../ it had lunch a couple of times...that day.... the thrid day I opened the window on purpose and it flew in as usuall.../ latter that day i put a few seeds on the corner of my desk and pretended to be looking away it came and picked at the seeds..../ it must have been someones pet as people from Iraq love birds and most homes the kids have birds and or fish.../ any way after that day it never came back.../ I like to call my little feathered friend a pet of mine all the same.../
