The average federal worker earns more than the average private-sector worker, but may be paid less to do the same work.

The average federal worker earns more than the average private-sector worker, but may be paid less to do the same work. What is wrong with this type of survey is most people associate federal workers to include polititians when they are two seperate work groups. Do polititians make to much,,,, YES way to much.

Most workers I believe are compensated well.. Some are out, dont get me wrong.. but most State workers work for peanuts.. trust me. But even these federal jobs, they command a lot of responsability and I think they need the comp in money.. sooo. Eh I dunno.

Federal workers exchange pay level for stable employment, excellent health and retirement benefits . . . and in most cases satisfaction in serving their country and working in areas they are passionate about ( at least those higher up in the ranks).  The amount of responsibility and accountability at higher GS levels is significant and ethics requirements are stringent.  Compared to mid level managers in the private sector I would say that government managers receive less in their paychecks by 20 to 30 percent, although it is difficult to make direct comparisons.
