Marching band anyone!

Posted 10 months ago I am a veteran of marching band from high school, was involved all 4 years and went to numerous competitions. Is there anyone else who was in marching band or involved with a marching band at all (such as a director, music technician, etc.)? If so, where was the band, what instrument(s) did you play, what competitions did you attend, etc.? "I'm completely in favor of the separation of Church and State. | Posted 10 months ago That's really cool! We had somebody like that, too. She wasn't really in the band, but she did a little bit of the announcing and she helped set things up and stuff (although she did play an instrument, she just didn't want to, lol). Do you play any instruments at all, or sing or anything like that? "I'm completely in favor of the separation of Church and State. | Posted 10 months ago I am actually a marching band mom right now, was once a color guard back in my high school days. Now I chaperone sometimes when my son's band goes out of town. Thank God marching season is over, now it is concert season and a little more slower pace. It is very time consuming for those high school kids. He plays the alto sax, and bass clarinet, band is very intense at his school. |

| Posted 10 months ago It was pretty intense at my school, too. We practiced three nights a week, went to competitions almost every weekend, attended BOA competitions, etc. My parents were both involved either building/setting up props, loading/unloading equipment, etc. They were always happy when it was over, too!! | Posted 10 months ago We just competed in BOA Nationals, we came in 4th overall and won Class AA championship. My son plays for Marian Catholic High School in Chicago Heights, IL. So intense, he is a freshman, and when I was in high school our band was nothing like this. It was intense, but also exciting and challenging for the kids. He has learned alot. |

| Posted 10 months ago Yea, I remember what it was like then. Once I got into college, I still participated in the pep band (I started out at a small private college, so there were only like 15 people in the band) but now I transferred to VCU (30K+ students) and just don't feel like being in the pep band there, although my fiance and I still participate in the one at my old college on occasion. | Posted 9 months ago I played xylophone/marimba/bells/vibraphone/etc. throughout my years of marching band. How did you like the xylophone? | Posted 9 months ago It was fun and a lot lighter than a piano. Like the piano, too, but wouldn't want to carry one. |

| Posted 5 months ago I'm currenlty on my way out of the Army. I'm serving as an Army Bandsmen in Korea and we do a lot of marching shows. We participate in international millitary marching tattoos. They are a lot like the drum & bugle corp shows and high school marching shows people are familiar with. I played flute/piccolo in high school, but right now I'm a singer with the band. We actually sing with our marching shows as the band stands in place. We roll out a stage with a rhythm section on it and give the marching band a bit of a break. It's so much fun! |
