Department of Defense: Federal Jobs Overview
Partnership for Public Service, _Where the Jobs Are: Mission Critical Opportunities for America_, 2007
November 06, 2007
The mission of the Department of Defense (DoD) is to protects and advance the security and interests of the United States, deters aggressors and, if deterrence fails, defeats any adversary.
Unlike the other executive level departments, DoD includes three sub-departments, the Departments of the Navy, Army and Air Force. Each of these departments includes a multitude of individual agencies administered by them. Check out the links below for more information on each of these departments and which federal jobs are in greatest demand at each.
There are also several agencies, and nearly 100,000 employees, administered directly by the DoD. The five largest such agencies are the Defense Logistics Agency, the Department of Defense Education Activity, Defense Commissary Agency, Defense Finance and Accounting Service, and the Defense Contract Management Agency.
