Whether or not you love history, as I do, this book is worth reading. Distinguished historian David McCullough has written an in-depth look of the year 1776, pivitol in American history, from both sides of the sea. A definate reccomendation.

McCullough has managed to do something that textbook writers and editors have never learned to do: he has written a deeply detailed account of an important part of American history that actually gets the reader emotionally involved in what went on. Even non-history buffs won't want to put this book down, and after all, that's the most important thing to consider: history fans already know the subject, but involving the general public is very diffcult unless the subject is presented as vividly as McCullough has here. The only drawback this book has is it is limited to the year 1776. For an equally vivid account of the entire time period, read A.J. Langguth's "Patriots".

Great book! Mr. McCullough really captured the sacrifices made on both sides as well as putting the reader in the rooms of the leaders and what they were thinking at the time.

Great book, but I liked his "John Adams" better. A great read.

Worth having in your personal library. Well written and good to brush up on the real American History.

Excellently written and engaging. I read most of it on a 14 hour flight, and could not put it down.
