It's bad enough that I had to endure a pay freeze, but cutting benefits and the size of the workforce won't balance the buget. All I here are cuts to this, that and the other, but no talk of a balanced approach to takle this problem. I believe Congress needs to rethink this one, and since they like to talk about cuts to this and that so much, mabey they should propose cuts to their salaries, benefits, etc.

Since 1999, federal workers' wages have increased by 70%, and the average salary in the private sector has increased by less than 10%. This is being paid for by tax-payers. Tax-payers PAY the wages of the people who work in their local, state, and federal governments. I've known enough state and federal employees on a friendly basis, and I do know that they are paid to do LESS work and to COST MORE so that they can keep their jobs.

I am late with a comment, but I have to state that people who share Mr. Meadore's opinion has the curtains pulled over their eyes, by the wolves in sheep clothing. When 400,000 people control over half the wealth of this nation and 250,000,000 have to deal with whats left, something is wrong and Americans such as this person turn their attention to the Federal Employees in those moderate positions that keep this country moving, is very myopic in their opinions.

Mr. 'Meadore', You have taken it upon yourself to speak as an authority of something you know nothing about. The statement "They seem..." shows an ignorance harmful to the American worker. Let me enlighten you. The 'demands' you refer to are voiced after many attempts to get msnsgement to the table to negotiate in good faith but were ignored. Unions have and always will fight to maintain or improve the quality of life for the American worker. If it were not for Unions, little children would still be used to climb into dangerous machinery to unjamb clogs, the wages would still be a dollar a day, and if a worker were injured by unsafe operations, they would just be fired. The safe workplace and benefits, not to mention the weekend and Holidays off, you enjoy are the result of hard work negotiations by Unions everywhere. And NO. Unions are NOT filled with corrupt, greedy, salacious people. They are full of hard working employees who donate thier time to represent the rights of fellow employees in defense of Out-of-Control management. You do not seem to be the type of person the Union needs in it's rank and file but you would not hesitate to take advantage of the benefits awarded you as a result of others sacrifices.

Unions need to sit at the table and ask what they can do to help, not demand more and give less. Unions do not have a real purpose in this day and age. I have never been in a union and would never be in a union. They seem to be filled with corrupt, greedy, salacious people who are driving this country into the ground.
I also saw the video of Gage remarking how people expecting unions to take a cut to help manage the deficits must be "mentally retarded".
He states the case I make so well.
