Deborah dear! Got to break it to you first too because you're among several people on GovCentral that I communicate with a lot. I'm going back to my old job with the Miccosukee Indians at their administrative offices in the Everglades! My former boss actually called a day before the New Year and asked if I would come back to work there if he could get approval from the board of directors for me to return to work there. But then he said he was not making any promises. That's why I didn't really count on going back there and continued searching and applying for work, going for interviews and all that. I was afraid that if I hung my hopes too high on my former boss attempt to get me back my job, well, my hopes would be dashed. Well, it's been slightly more than a month and it's finally happened! I'm re-starting on Monday! That will officially end seven long months of unemployment! Yippee! What about you? Any results yet from that last interview?

Hi Deborah!, wow, your roses off and budding too??? What gives with the lack of consistancy in the growth cycles? I see many changes in all of my plants... all seem to be recovering even without sunlight? I too hope that the freeze will stay away and with a little tilling and repotting all my favs will be vibrant and blooming come the turn of spring...

Deborah: Great stuff! Considering it's been 11 years. I had not been interviewed for nearly 8 years! So yes, it's been tough going and nerve-wracking. I always tell myself what you tell yourself too - if it's meant to happen, it'll happen. I really don't know any more, I'm not sure if I'm going to succumb to desperation soon. Some friends of mine (who live in Canada by the way) was telling me that I should pick the companies I want to work for and start cold calling them and inject my way in like that. That's easier said than done. Most of the time when you call, you can't even get past the receptionist, let alone Human Resources or the top executives who are doing the hiring! I've tried calling and most of the time get told I have to go through the process online. They don't like it if you call. I guess my friends were trying to boost my morale at the start of the New Year. Do you find your clients through recommendations by other clients or do you cold call?

Dear Deborah: Yes, I knew you would be on my side. And should I offer you my sincere congratulatons for having the potential of being hired very soon? Or maybe not? You don't sound vey enthusiastic about going back to work full-time. I think you like being an entrepreneur, running your own business, being your own boss. The thing about having a business is that you really have to work damn hard at it to make it work. You really have to have a "service" or a "product" that people really want to buy, especially in these challenging times where people don't have a lot of disposable income. My husband and I, we are just not into "selling". We played around with a few ideas for a home-based business but never followed through. I had so many solicitations from insurance companies wanting me to join them to sell insurance on commission and I know that no matter how desperate I get, I'm not going to accept any of these offers. I don't like pushy salespeople and I certainly don't want to be one myself, even if it's trying to sell my own product! I wish I was like you and all those successful people who run their own businesses. But alas! Have a good weekend, Deb. Faridah

Hi Deborah. thanks for stopping in and checking up on me...I have posted alot of reworked poems at GotPoetry.com, and some new work also...currently I am under the weather health wise...the wet and cold has me spinning these last few days... It is a funny thing though, I just do not feel sharp enough to be online... my senses and my thought processes are foggy at best...I do hope you are prospering in this new year and that your health and wealth indicators are positive... All of the best in life to you and all of your relations... your 'friend', Michael

Dear Deborah: At one stage I had all these vague plans to set up a "Virtual Assistant" business and even signed-up to a group called Virtual Assistants on Linked-In to find out how to get started in this business. But my interest in doing so has waned completely now. Firstly, because I see there are so many people who have the same idea of setting up VA's that I wonder if there're enough clients to go round and if these VA's really make any money at all. Secondly, because I feel that I should concentrate on getting a job, because that's really what I want, to go to work, I was born to go to work! Not to run a business, go out look for clients, sell my services, invest some money to incorporate the business and set up a payment system, a website, etcetera. I just don't think I have it in me to be an entrepreneur. I prefer to spend the time I have left when I'm not looking for work, to study or to learn new things on my own, enriching my skills in preparation for my next job. What do you think? Am I wrong to abandon my thoughts of setting up a business? I would appreciate your input.

Dear Deb: How are you? Long time no write. It's cold again here in Miami. Am feeling kinda empty-headed, the cold does that to me and that's why I felt I had nothing to write about. Wanted to let you know though that I had a break this week with one of my government jobs applications. I had a phone interview with the local Medicare office and three program managers. I think I did quite well and I hope that I get selected to continue on for the next step in the hiring process. So cross your fingers for me.
