- About Me
- I was born and bred in the island and city of Singapore. I grew up learning to read Arabic without knowing the meaning of the words. English, the official business language of Singapore, has always been my forte. My love of the language was why I pursued a writing career. For 13 years I made my living in Bangkok, Thailand, as freelance journalist and copywriter, becoming a newspaper columnist and Bangkok correspondent for various Hong-Kong based and Singapore publications. It seemed only natural to me to learn to speak Thai. I took a year and a half hiatus to sojourn in Paris and that's where I picked up my French language skills. I migrated to the US in the year China took over Hong-Kong from the British and five years later I was naturalized a US Citizen. When I arrived here in the small town of Plymouth, Michigan, I had little choice but to give up my writing career and to settle for readily-available jobs that pay a steady-income. I am very proud to be a US citizen and to have Barack Obama as my president. Because of him I am inspired to join the government in some kind of capacity where I can be of service to the country.

I can believe and see you out on those sandy beaches Faridah...I spent many a month out and about too...Had Yai was a relaxing spot, out of the mainstream, polite and quiet and most serene...Hua Hin was one of my favorites, blasting down from the city on my 900 kawa and kicking it with the royals...but Phuket was the best for me...golfing at Surin, windsurfing Patong and beach cricket at sunset...running through the jungle with the Hash house Harriers...all this before the big resort developments came along...Here is another name dropped..Olin Choi, from Singapore...we met at Patong and travelled to Hawaii together...so many fond memories...thank you Faridah for these blasts into my past...for the present I send you and yours good wishes and the best to you and all of your relations...your friend Khun Michael.

Thank you Faridah, Yes there were some air alert days there, especially during afternoon traffic...I however remained mobile and found all of the 'local' routes around the whole of town and I could be out of city center within 15 minutes of so if required...I have another acquaintance you may know Grame Spence...worked for USAid and made alot of the upscale social circuit gatherings...He was I believe from New Zealand...we played rugby for the British Club. I can say however that the more restful events I attended were far away from the city and Up Country or out to the Islands or to the Lao or Burmese border areas, and of course hanging out with my shadow crowd pals up in Khun Sa's backyard...this country may never know the how and what of all of those years and to who went all the 'gold'...All the best to you for now....

Hi yes i am a veteran but since I did not serve my country during war time I have limited benefits and I did not retire from the service which I should have. I do not know if they would even give me any consideration for medical because of that my term was through peacetime. I will check into it but at the same time the VA hospital over here is a very busy place and I might just get looked over since no war time Understand us Vets who did not serve during war time have even less benfits until I did then they will put me in a pine box and bury me they will pay for that unless your husband knows of something different than I do.
I do not know if he can answer those questions or not my VA rep office at times is really of no help

Good Evening Faridah, I suppose Bernard has taken his last late night photo by now...All the fun he had during his long journey there in Krungthep...However we have touched and shared memories and this has given me smiles...and courage to continue on...perhaps I do have or share purpose...I must be off just now, I will be back on the morrow...I do miss the SIA flights out of Saudi to Singapore...

April 1979, at Lucy's Tiger Den on Silom Road...How about Allen Dawson and did you visit Neil's Tavern? I lived near Wat Suttah in the 'old city', down the street from the Crown Princes' minor wife...before the area was redeveloped circa 1986-1988...I kept company with the NIke crew and the rugby section at the British Club...took the trains everywhere, wow all the memories...thank you for this moments read...
