Bonjours Dan! Comment-allez vous aujourdhui? That should be easy for you to understand. I have kept up my French by watching French movies and reading Paris Match online. Also, when I went to work (in my most recent past life) :-) I spoke French to my Haitian colleagues just to practise. Most of them speak Creole and French. Besides I love French because it just sounds so romantic and beautiful. Now Spanish, even though I'm surrounded by Latin people here, I find that I have some slight resistance to it. So it takes longer for me to conjure up some words in Spanish in my head. I think it's because of the machine-gun speedy rattling of words that come out from their mouths when they speak that we don't know where one word begins and another ends. It's like they don't enunciate properly and sometimes they just don't sound very sophisticated like the French, with the exception of the Spanish spoken by the people in Spain. Ha ha! Don't I sound as though I'm prejudiced against the Spanish spoken by the Hispanics here. Not so at all. It's just that I very much wish to be fluent in Spanish but in reality, I'm not and it's painful to know and am trying to find some kind of an excuse for it. Actually, it's simple. If we don't practise speaking the language - like I haven't since I'm isolated at home in my job search and I live with the monolingual person who is my husband - we can lose it. Some days I try to tune in to Spanish radio or watch the news on TV in Spanish. It helps but not as much as when you're actually speaking it. Was this what you meant when you wrote earlier that Miami is a totally different world? When I first came down here, I thought that this place is the "Third World" believe it or not. And it is like living in a different country, not a state in the US. Every one here assumes that every one else speaks Spanish and they start talking to my husband and I in Spanish without so much of a preamble. So much so sometimes we feel like there's reverse discrimination here against English-speaking "real" Americans. I thought that they were very inconsiderate and that they had no desire to assimilate. My husband and I, we've always thought that the Federal Government should make English the official language and that way, at least, it will send the message that all communications must all be in English.

Dear Dan: Thanks for the encouragement to seek out the super spies and intelligence agencies to put my talents to good use. I'm always on the lookout for such positions and definitely I am going to let my lack of a degree stop me from applying to them. The worst thing that can happen is I'm going to get a rejection e-mail telling me I'm not qualified or I'm too old! I've already got a few of those. So hey Dan, you know French? Peut-etre on pourrait communiquer ici en Francais? You mentioned you wanted to go to Egypt. To work or for just to travel and sight-seeing? Do you know Arabic?

To tell you truthfully i do live in the west but I am a east coast fan, Boston Celtis for a very long time , Larry Bird, The Washington Redskins since Billy Kilemer (the king oif the wobble), theCinnannti reds since Pete Rosae even though it did things that was not apporopraite but still deserves to be in the hall of fame. I am not the type of perdons that goes from team to team due that they are having a great season. The college world it has to be the State of nebada the "wolfpack' have to be ther for them in basketball and foot ball.
i am not really into hockey that much, i really enjoy sports

Dear Dan, I'm so sorry to hear about your predicament, losing your place and all. Your brother is kind and generous for helping you out and you're lucky to have him to rely on. I agree with you about energy based technology and construction business. I so want to join the solar power movement but as you so rightly pointed out who's got the money to fork out to change over to this expensive system. The government said it's going to give people credit to make the switch, but you have to spend the money first before we can claim the credit, right? Construction in Florida, on the whole, is still pretty depressed, isn't it? So what's your plan, in terms of your job search, will you be looking at other sectors and a different career? I have a talent with languages but because I don't have a degree, I have not tried to join those government agencies who could use my services. These agencies you mentioned usually stipulate a college degree for these positions. I've worked for 30 years but apparently here in the US, experience doesn't count for anything without a degree.

Hi Dan, thanks for accepting my offer of friendship. Where are you based? If I may be so bold as to ask? I have been living in Miami, FL for 9 years and have been out of work for 6 months now. Jobs are few and far between and also because I'm not hispanic and fully bilingual in Spanish, I don't get selected. Could you switch to construction work for "green or clean energy projects?" - I'm not even sure if there are such projects nationwide that have been launched either by the government or by private corporations.
