Bonsoir, Dan. Merci pour me montrer cette location d'ou je pourrais rappeller mon Francais. Mais en ce moment je n'avais pas beaucoup de temps pour aller a ca website. Il faut que j'etudies mes cours de l'universite. There are no accent marks I'm afraid on here so my written French is not perfect. But I hope you will at least be able to cotton on to the words. So you've been in the military. That means the government pays for you to go to college, right? Don't tell me they're not paying for your studies? My husband works for the State of Fl Veterans Administration and he is a Vietnam veterans with two purple hearts and he often told me that younger vets can go back to college for literally free. My husband went to college when he was in the service and he graduated. But every one is different. Perhaps your detail while you're in the military was too tough and took up long hours and there was no way you could focus on your studies. In any case, now you have the chance to make up for it and that's a good thing. Bon, il faut que j'aille faire mes lecons. A bientot.

Bonsoir Monsieur Thoms! I was trying to read Ann Rynd's tome "Atlas Shrugged" to enter an essay competition and win the $10,000 prize money offered as college scholarship by the author's Foundation. But now that I'm going back to work, I don't think I would have the time so I'm going to abandon this plan. I was laid off from my job with the natives here at the Everglades in July, but the Tribe recently had a change of leadership and an upheaval and a restructure. My former boss needed me and with these changes he felt confident he could get approval from the board of directors to take me back on board. I'm restarting on Monday. I am taking two online courses: Microcomputers usage (actually it's more on Office 2007) and Psychology for Personal Effectiveness for this semester, to kick off the year. I've been accepted by Florida International University (FIU) for the fall term but thought I'd get some credits to transfer. For summer I'm planning to take the required college courses of English and Mathematics before transfering to FIU. I haven't decided on a major yet, I'm torn between IT and Languages. I understand about relocation being tough for anyone, really. Most of the time it's a Catch-22 situation for a lot of people who've lost their jobs and are in transition. You can't move without a job, but if you stay you can't get a job. Yes, I had an initial phone interview recently by the Medicare office here in Miami and haven't heard from them since, so I'm not going to wait and just go back to my old job, since I need the money, having not worked for the past seven months.

Dear Dan, anyone can go stir crazy staying indoors all the time. People need sunshine and fresh air to feel alive! The crazy thing is for seven months that's basically what I did. I rarely went out because I really hate to spend money the money I am not earning on gas. But then I keep myself busy, aside from housework, cooking dinner and looking after my pets (luckily I don't have kids!), I do like to upgrade my skills learning new things on the computer and there's never enough time to read at home and boy, do I love to read! And now I am taking two online college courses and I'm going back to work this Monday, so there will be even less time to go out! But on the coming weekends with me having some income back I am looking forward to going shopping again. I really don't know why rail travel just hasn't caught on here as well as in Europe or Japan. People just love to drive I suppose, no matter how expensive gas is. What they should have near railway stations are rental car stations too with free shuttles running back and forth from each station. It's a good idea but not properly planned here in the US, because there's really very little interest from the general public or the people implementing it. Are you looking for jobs in other states? You can relocate easily right? Because you don't have any obligations and dependents.

i think really in the long run I would really like to have both some campus and some online

Stay positive. Everything will turn out the way it should1 Keep the faith in the Lord and let Him lead the way! With Him, there is nothing that you can't do, unless it is something that He doesn't want you to do. You have a lot of potential! You may feel that you are everywhere, but you will get through it and find that there is one place that you need to work and that will be the place where only you can fill it! Look up! You can get through it! Trust in the Lord!

Dan, I'm surprised that there's quite a lot going on there in Jacksonville. My sister-in-law and her husband live in DeBary near Orlando. Her husband is in the dry-wall end of the construction business and according to him construction there has just about dried up. Most of the time he's sitting at home being a couch potato. Lucky for him his wife has a stable job. But I heard from them that they're going to build a railway through this touristic part of town so that should create some jobs and bring in more tourism and help improve the economy there somewhat. I'm hoping that this year, Miami and South Florida, on the whole, will be carrying out a lot more infrastructure projects that will create more jobs. Let's cross our fingers.

Dan, I admire the fact that you do try to learn and pick up Spanish from the people you work with. So how come you never ventured further South all the way to the Keys? The Keys are beautiful and if you've already got as far as Tampa, you might as well travel all the way down here, past Miami and to the Keys. At least just for a visit, as a tourist. Is the primary industry in Jacksonville before the economy tanked, tourism or construction? I'm going to look Jacksonville up on the map closely because I'm not familiar with it. :-)
