Federal GS Pay Raise in 2010 to Increase 2%

The federal civilian workforce will receive a 2 percent pay increase in fiscal 2010 under the Obama administration’s proposed budget.

This is a significant percent decrease from the previous 3.5% and 3.9% increases in 2008 and 2009, respectively.

The administration has cited this lower percentage increase as reflective of the current economic crisis. Such a measure will make federal pay and benefit practices more in line with what workers in the private sector are experiencing.

Remember, as with the GS Pay Scale system in years past, individual workers may get more or less based on their locality, or on whether or not they receive promotions.
