Over half of Utah’s federal workforce is employed by the Department of Defense, and primarily by the U.S. Air Force. The USAF Materiel Command employs nearly 11,000 at the Ogden Air Logistics Center. Another large federal employer is the Internal Revenue Service which employs nearly 6,000, mostly at a processing facility, also in Ogden. The Bureau of Land Management and the U.S. Forest Service employ 1,000 and 1,700 to manage and protect Utah’s large expanses of open, federally owned land.
