Over half of New Jersey’s federal workforce is employed by the DoD. Most are involved an defense research activities and that state’s top employers are the U.S. Army Research, Development and Engineering Command and the U.S. Army Communications Electronics Command, which employ 4,100 and 2,200 respectively. These two elements, more commonly referred to as ARDEC and CECOM are located at Picatinny and Monmouth. New Jersey’s large percentage of military veterans has made the Veterans Health Administration a major federal employer as well.
