Kentucky has a relatively large number of federal employees for its population size. Nearly one-fourth of them are employed by the Internal Revenue Service at the IRS Processing Center in Covington, a suburb of Cincinnati, Ohio. Other large federal employers in the state are the Veterans Health Administration and the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, which employ 3,000 and 1,000 Kentuckians respectively.
