Nearly half of Georgia’s large federal workforce is employed by defense-related agencies, mostly under the Department of the Air Force and the Department of the Army. The Air Force Materiel Command at Rollins AFB alone employ over 12,000, and the Army Installation Management Agency and Army Medical Command each employ around 3,000 people in the state. The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), headquartered in Atlanta, and the Internal Revenue Service also employ over 5,000 Georgians.
