Description
Reclamation is a contemporary water management agency striving to assist in meeting the increasing water demands of the West while protecting the environment. Reclamation is best known for the construction of dams, power plants, and canals, including Hoover Dam on the Colorado River, Grand Coulee Dam on the Columbia River. Today, we are the largest wholesaler of water in the country and the second largest producer of hydroelectric power in the western United States generating nearly a billion dollars in power revenues.
Fish Biologists help carry out the mission of the Bureau of Reclamation through the collection and analyzing biological data and preparing reports. They also recommend designs on planning, construction, and operation and maintenance projects in order to protect and enhance aquatic resources.
Qualifications/Education
At minimum a Bachelor’s Degree is required to qualify as a fish biologist, though an advanced Master’s Degree is required for positions listed at GS-9 and above.
Pay
GS-9 to GS-11. For the 2010 Fiscal Year this is projected to be between $41,768 to $50,535. Congress is still debating the pay increase. The salary may increase based on the locality of the position.
