Search All States for Federal Jobs
Jonathan Zuk / GovCentral Contributor
Searching for a job in your home state can be a heavy task. Often times your career field or agency interests don’t coincide with what’s available in your specific locale. The fifty state profiles below provide short summaries of what federal departments and agencies dominate the federal employment picture in each state and links out to specific federal job searches for each OPM-classified career and for each state’s major cities.
In most instances, its easy to guess which agencies employ the most people in each state. States with large numbers of seniors and veterans such as Florida and Pennsylvania have equally high numbers of Veterans Affairs and Social Security Administration employees. Most states in the Mountain West, with their open spaces and natural wonders, have extremely high percentages of National Park Service, U.S. Forest Service, and Bureau of Land Management employees. These states are also home to many U.S. Air Force bases.
Internal Revenue Service employees are concentrated in the nation’s largest and wealthiest metropolitan areas in New York, California, and Illinois. U.S. Army personnel is concentrated in the Southern states of North Carolina, Alabama, and Texas and U.S. Navy personnel are usually near America’s largest deep water ports in the Mid-Atlantic state of Virginia or in the Far West in Washington state and Hawaii.
