The government’s 2009 hiring needs have been reported: 193,000 mission-critical jobs need must be filled over the next two years. Based on a survey of 34 federal agencies (representative of nearly 99% of the federal workforce), we’ve gathered important information about five career paths that are projected to hire at record paces in 2009.

i am getting my bachelors degree in business / finance i have no idea what i want to do with it but i know something with the government something big i want to bet the one in charge .. does anyone have any advice what i can do with my degree i am soo lost and i am close to graduating

Interesting information on Occupational Health. I have a Bachelor's in Chemistry with a concentration in Biochemistry, post-bacc in Medical Technology, prior military experience as an Occupational Health Coordinator, and currently have a 10-point rating for service connected disability, and when I applied for the Occupational Health position with the Dept. of the Navy (DON), I was told I wasn't qualified for the job. Will someone please explain to me where these editors are getting their information, or why the DON found me underqualified for the job?

I am a Veteran and I have my Associates Degree in Communication and working towards my Bachelor's Degree in Communication. What kind of Government jobs are out there for someone of my stature? I will be continuing on with a Masters Degree in Criminal Justice.

I don't know 'blankety blank'? My original point was simply that this forum was not the place to be submitting your resumes or curriculum vitae (look that one up) and not that this was not a good resource for information. www.usajobs.gov is a more applicable site for those wanting to forward resumes and find actual employers. some people on this board (lafayette) need to chill out and stop all the negativity.

I am currently in the Air Force and am looking to retire around the end of next year with 20 yrs of service. I have completed my Bachelor's in Business with a concentration in HR. I'm currently working on my Master's in Human REsource Mgmt. I am a little apprehensive about retiring, but i'm ready to go ahead and start a new career. I want to retire to Ga or Fl, but it all depends on where i can find a job. I am flexible as far as areas, as long as the job is solid. Anyone have any advice??

Wow, MIT. I am in San Antonio and see that you son wants to join SAPD. You never know what opportunities he may be exposed to by joining the police force, and he may gain a lot from doing so. On the other hand, he may realize how difficult the police department is and go back to looking for employment in EE or CS. CS is a fast moving field though, so the more he is out the more he may have to catch up with once he decided.
Maybe he can go on some ride alongs or volunteer with the plice force to see it in action first.

With the Electrical Engineering and Computer Science, he could get an awesome job in criminal justice. They need people with a good head on their shoulders and computers are an area that need policing.
Good luck to him. FBI is probably a great place for him to start.
As to the Aerospace Engineer, do you check your typing before submitting? I see so many errors of both grammar and typos, I wonder how you're capable of engineering - aren't you supposed to fairly bright?
Or are you from a different country by birth - then I'd have to give you some slack, as your english is better than most Americans' ANY foreign language.
If you're from the US, please, check what you've written before sending!

I have a son getting ready to go into the workforce and will be graduating from MIT with a Degree in Electrical Engineering and Computer Science. Well, he is determined now to be a Police Officer and I would he go Federal like DEA or FBI, he wants to be an SAPD Officer. Any ideas anyone? I feel that I will not be able to talk him out of it.

I just recently got a goverment job as a Aerospace Engineer. I got lucky I guess. My experince with the goverment is this. If you want a goverment job, they are there to be had. The wheels of the goverment turn slow. From the time of initial application to the actuall interview to 3 months. Human resources have to go hrough all applications(sometimes thousands of them) to see who qualifies. Then they send out notices to the most qualified individuals. Next the schedule interviews after wich they select a candidate. Slow process, but it fair and it works. I am ex military and have been employed by uncle sam for 2 years now. The benefits are great and the job is stable with no layoffs. The time I acrue here with the Federal goverment actually ties in with my military time towards my retirement. Six years active duty plus 2 years Federal service, equals 8 years towards retirement. Good luck with your search. I have attached the web site to search for your job. http://www.usajobs.gov/
