2010 Federal Pay Raise to be Over 2.9 Percent

Approximately two months after all debates were settled with regards to the 2009 government pay schedule, speculation has already surfaced on the 2010 pay rate changes. According to GovExec.com, the average pay increase will be at least 2.9 percent in 2010 (a claim which is based on figures released by the Department of Labor, according to journalist Brittany Ballenstedt).
In case anybody hasn’t heard by now, the 2009 pay schedule will increase pay by 3.9 percent, since President Bush signed into law the proposal created by the senate.
NSPS vs. GS
Obviously, it’s way too early to determine pay increases for 2010 – but I did have one insight I wanted to share before the discussion gets tabled until mid-2009: several government agencies, including the Intelligence Agency, will ensure that employees who meet performance standards in 2009 receive the same raise or higher in 2010. This rule renders one of the differences between the gs pay system and the NSPS pay system quite clear: under NSPS, some employees have been receiving pay raises which were less than they would have earned if they had remained under the GS pay system. This has lead to some criticism of the NSPS pay system.

"A priviledged class"? Are you freakin kidding me? I work at the VA, you know taking care of those who have served for your freedom. I pull in a whopping $30,772 a year and am married with two children. Wow, what to do with all this cash I'm rolling in? If I get a 1-2 percent bump in that salary how does that negatively affect your life? Idiots.

Government workers - they average Gov't worker isn't gougin anyone - We too are losing jobs as they sclae down - Who does the gerneral public think picks up the duties of our deployed troops? That means longer hours and double the work for an average salary. There's no gougin here - I've been in almost 30 years and can say Gov't work is no more loyal to its employees, no easier on its employees and it's tough to get promotions unless you have friends in management. - Now Management is an entirely different posting :)

Like the old Soviet Union , we too have a new privileged class which is immune to the outside world's troubles. While normal people are losing jobs and being told that there are no raises government workers will continue to gorge at the trough. 0% COLA for social security and military retirees but 2.9% for the bureaucrats!
