The Best Entry Level Government Jobs
289 Comments
There is a lot of discussion about how government-sector jobs are more stable than others in our faltering economy and about how government hiring trends are predicted to be more resistant to the economic downturn than other sectors. Unfortunately, this doesn’t do you a whole lot of good, if you’ve got no idea of where to start in order to get hired.

Are there any openings where a college degree is not required? I've been in the Commercial Real Estate profession for over 10 years and have been laid off for a year and a half now. I would like to be in a stable environment and grow within. Does work experience count anymore?

I have owned my own business now for over 30 years and have not seen anything like this.I have never missed a day due to illness and cannot remember being late to an appointment.
Having said that,I would love to be able to work with the government to have some stability and maybe see what it is like to have benefits.

I graduated in 2008 with a BS in Information Systems, and began my career change efforts immediately. I'm still looking, and can't get past the experiance requirement. Any tips to sell myself and use life experiances such as building PC systems would be appreciated.

@ Cricket2009 I ask the very same question. I find this to be the case most often, so how is that entry-level if the employer is asking for several years of experience?

I like this article and found it very interesting. I am interested in a position as a Paralegal. I am willing to start in an entry-level position and grow with the position. However, what confuses me is when a position says entry-level, why is there a requirement of 2-5 years experience?

I would love a government job where I can expand my knowledge in telecommunications/and or administration. I am a 10 yr veteran of the U.S. Army and I would love to work for the government again. It was the most stable and honorable time of my life. Any feedback would be greatly appreciated. Thanks and good luck to all!

I have a Bachelor's Degree in History from the University of North Dakota. I have always been interested in a federal government job and I would be ideal as an administrative assistant. I would like to work in either North Dakota or the Minneapolis/St.Paul area, but I am also open to moving anywhere for the right occupation.
