Looking at a position with a pay scale of YC-2210-02. After a painful bit of searching on the murky world of government pay scales I found this:
http://www.cpms.osd.mil/ASSETS/8E60EB0AAEE04E4D8AD58EFCACBD2984/Sta...
The position is an Army slot but the application is asking for the "Lowest Acceptable Grade/Pay Band" which is a drop down from "None" through 19. If I read the above document correctly isn't the job already a pay band 2 so I would select 2 in the drop down ???

I'm new to the GS pay scale topic. Curious who things could work out for me. I've got 20 years of hard IT experience. School wise I have a BS in Comp Sci. If I follow the information on this site, it would seem I would expect a GS7 based on the educational requirements. Does past experience help at all ?

NSPS is nothing but a big lie. It's supposed to be a way to distinguish superior performance but the only ones identified as superior performers are those with bosses who don't have many employees to evaluate and are willing to take the time to truly justify their employees' performance so their record stands half a chance at the pay pool level. Otherwise, the employee gets clumped in with the masses. The only real thing NSPS does as claimed is allows supervisors to skip raises for the hated non-worker. Another thing that rips is the half bonus half raise concept that they use under NSPS. Think about it. How much more are you paying in taxes for the bonus portion compared to the salary portion. Additionally, bonuses aren't factored into your subsequent years' increases. For example, if you earned $1000 a year and received $100 bonus and $100 pay increase this year, come next year your raise will only be computed on an $1100 salary vice a $1200 salary. But here's the best part, although NSPS supposedly gives HR the ability to hire employees at a wide salary range, based on their experience, they always conveniently revert back to the GS step 1 system during negotiations. That's why I call NSPS the Big Lie.

I'm currently a US Air Force contractor. I have been informed that my position due to it's sensitivity will be made into a NSPS YA-02 position and I may have a chance for it. I currently make now $95K and understand that may be tough to get and was wondering what is the best way to negotiate for something close?

Currently I am a YE-02/03 getting paid YE-02 Pay at $55,875 base pay. In May, I understand I will be promoted to YE-03 non-competative. How can I calculate my pay raise since there are no definitive income listed in NSPS?
