Analytic Geometry - Al Hazen's Billiard Problem - An Advanced Problem in Optics

Created over 5 years ago

Description: Abu Ali al-Hasan ibn al-Hasan ibn al-Haytham (and known in Europe as Alhacen or Alhazen) was born in Basra in present-day Iraq. He probably died in Cairo, Egypt. During the Islamic Golden Age, Basra was a "key centre of learning", and he was educated there and in Baghdad, the capital of the Abbasid Caliphate, and the focus of the "high point of Islamic civilization". During his time in Iraq, he worked as a civil servant and read many theological and scientific books. His mathmatical and geometric problem relating to the field of optics puzzled the scientific world for nearly 1000 years until solved by an Oxford Don who used techniques developed by René Descartes to solve it. In a parallel effort to solve this problem I also applied techniques of Descartes to solve the problem. Contained in this album is my solution to this problem. All work contained in this album is based upon unclassified data and open sources.
